ACP
Platform Principles Summary
These are in no order of importance please check out the full
platform plank for full details if more details are listed in following
sections.
Foreign Relations: China & Cuba
Currently the United States trades with both Communist China
and Vietnam.
There is no defensible reason to trade with these two communist countries but
not Cuba.
Import and export fees on goods and services transiting between the US and Cuba
will enrich the US
economy. Travel tariffs will also bring in additional income to the US economy. By
opening trade with Cuba it
should be a positive first step to peaceful normalized relations with Cuba and may even lead to a democratic, free,
and peaceful Cuba.
1. The
ACP supports and proposes the immediate lifting of the embargo against Cuba.
Despite the restrictions placed on foreign businesses by Castro Government.
This will begin in a phased plan. Normalized relations will be phased in as Cuba
reforms its human rights activities.
a. American
businesses will no longer be restricted from doing business with Cuba.
b. Travel
restrictions will also be lifted, thus allowing family and friends to be able
to visit with each other more frequently than three years at a time.
2. Immigration
policy will also be altered to reflect a singular policy regardless of where
the immigrant originated. No longer will citizens of any one country have
preference over any others when requesting political asylum.
China:
China is an economic power and an emerging military power. The United States should be aware and cautious of
this but should engage China
peacefully. While the U.S.
and China
will probably always disagree on many issues. Strong, engaged, and peaceful
cooperation between the United States
and China
can lead to great things for our nations and all of mankind. Our two nations
are linked in many ways, some positive and some negative. America needs to work to reduce our debt to China, and work on true fair trade with China. We
should not sell out American businesses. China
produces more and more products; China relies on American investment
and expertise in many business and production areas. America
buys the products that China
produces and our economies are linked. A war between the U.S. and China would be disastrous for the
world and our nations for many reasons chief among them the bloodshed and
suffering and then the economic ramifications not on both sides of the Pacific
but around the world. While China
might not be an ally or an enemy, it is a strategic competitor and that can be
good impetus for the United
States to get its economic, energy, and
educational houses in order. The United States
and China
can cooperate on global warming and energy if both nations work at it. That is
why the ACP supports a peaceful policy with China. The United States should never be afraid of China or any
nation but neither should we look for conflict of any kind first. Thus, the ACP
supports:
- Continue
to develop fair trade with China. The ACP supports reviewing China’s
trading partner status every year.
- Continue
to pressure China
on human rights and democratic rights.
- Work
with China
to combat global warming and to jointly work together to develop
sustainable energy alternatives for both nations and the world.
- Continue
to pressure China
to continue to float its currency in world markets.
- Work
with China
on safety matters concerning Chinese products.
- Work
with China to continue
to open its markets to more US products.
- Let China know that we will help defend our
allies in the Pacific including Taiwan.
- Encourage
Taiwan
to stay the course and not declare independence.
- Encourage
easing ties with China
and Japan.
- Decrease
the amount of money we borrow from China by a large amount each
year and pay off our debt to them.
